Centella Asiatica, commonly known as Gotu Kola, is a perennial herb that has been used for centuries in traditional medicine across various cultures. In recent years, it has gained popularity in the skincare industry for its remarkable skin-healing properties. Here are the key benefits of Centella Asiatica in skincare:
Enhances Skin Healing: Centella Asiatica is renowned for its ability to speed up the skin’s healing process. It promotes the synthesis of collagen, which is crucial for skin regeneration and repair. This makes it an excellent ingredient for treating scars, wounds, and other skin imperfections.
Soothes Skin Inflammation: The herb contains potent anti-inflammatory compounds that help reduce skin redness and irritation. This soothing effect is particularly beneficial for individuals with sensitive or acne-prone skin, as it helps calm inflammation and discomfort.
Improves Skin Hydration: Centella Asiatica boosts the skin’s hydration levels by enhancing the production of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance in the skin that retains water. This results in a plumper, more hydrated complexion.
Strengthens the Skin Barrier: The compounds in Centella Asiatica, including madecassoside, asiaticoside, and asiatic acid, strengthen the skin’s natural barrier. This helps protect the skin from environmental stressors and prevents moisture loss, keeping the skin healthy and resilient.
Reduces Signs of Aging: By stimulating collagen production and protecting the skin from environmental damage, Centella Asiatica helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, contributing to a more youthful complexion.
Fades Hyperpigmentation: The herb’s antioxidant properties also play a role in diminishing hyperpigmentation and evening out skin tone. It inhibits melanin production, which can lead to a reduction in dark spots and a more uniform skin colour.
Due to these benefits, Centella Asiatica is a highly sought-after ingredient in skincare products, especially those formulated for healing, soothing, and revitalising the skin.
Tea Tree Oil, derived from the leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia plant native to Australia, has been widely recognised for its potent antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Its application in skincare, particularly for acne-prone skin, offers several benefits:
Antibacterial Properties: Tea Tree Oil is highly effective against the bacteria responsible for acne formation, such as Propionibacterium acnes. Its antibacterial action helps reduce the occurrence of acne outbreaks by targeting and neutralising the bacteria on the skin’s surface.
Anti-inflammatory Effects: The oil significantly reduces inflammation associated with acne. By soothing redness and swelling, it helps in the rapid healing of existing acne lesions and minimises discomfort.
Reduces Sebum Production: Although not its primary function, some studies suggest that Tea Tree Oil can help regulate sebum production. Excess sebum is a key factor in acne development, and its reduction can lead to fewer breakouts.
Promotes Skin Healing: Apart from its anti-acne benefits, Tea Tree Oil supports the skin’s healing process. It can help heal acne scars and other forms of skin damage, leaving the skin smoother and clearer over time.
Minimal Side Effects: When used appropriately, Tea Tree Oil is less likely to cause the side effects associated with stronger acne treatments, such as skin irritation and dryness. However, it’s important to conduct a patch test before regular use, as some individuals may be sensitive to it.
Versatile Application: Tea Tree Oil can be found in a variety of skincare products, including cleansers, toners, spot treatments, and creams. This versatility makes it easy to incorporate into any skincare routine aimed at combating acne.
For best results, Tea Tree Oil should be used in diluted forms or as part of a formulated skincare product to minimise the risk of skin irritation. Its effectiveness against acne, combined with a good skincare routine, can significantly improve the appearance of acne-prone skin over time.

I have been using this cream for about 3 weeks now but have not yet seen any significant changes. I was reluctant to purchase it as there were no reviews as yet however I took a chance as I love the COSRX brand and read up alot on centella and its benefits. The product comes in a small tub however a little goes a long way as it does smooth out easily. I have acne scarring on certain areas of my face so I will continue using the product in hopes that it will help.
