What Is the Korean Skincare Routine and Why Should You Follow It?

The Korean skincare routine has taken the world by storm—and for a good reason. While the traditional skincare routine focuses on exfoliating and revealing new skin, Korean skincare digs deep into the skin’s roots, nourishing it from the inside.

The 10-step Korean skincare routine and its benefits

  • Oil-based cleanser

Your body naturally produces sebum, an oily substance that coats and protects the skin. However, too much sebum can lead to severe acne, while poor sebum production results in dryness.

Oil-based cleansers are needed to eliminate sebum, as well as oil-based products like sunscreen and makeup.

  • Water-based cleanser

Once your skin is free of excess oil, you can use a water-based cleanser to get rid of remaining impurities. For example, they are used to remove dirt and sweat.

  • Exfoliant

Exfoliants can be physical or chemical. These products help remove debris from your pores and slough off dead skin cells, making the skin brighter and smoother.

Note that exfoliants can be harsh on the skin, so you should only use them once or twice a week.

  • Toner

After putting all those products on your skin, it might become unbalanced. Toners return your skin to its natural pH and bring moisture back.

  • Essence

Essences are made of lightweight, hydrating, and anti-ageing ingredients. They are the bridge between toners and serums, keeping the skin moisturised.

  • Treatment

Treatments such as serums are made to target specific issues. For instance, you may use a Tea tree serum to eliminate acne or a Vitamin C treatment to improve wrinkles.

  • Sheet mask

Completing all these steps in a day can be a little overwhelming, but luckily, you have time to relax. A sheet mask gives you a break in the middle of a routine, infusing your skin with concentrated essence for about 15 to 20 minutes.

  • Eye cream

The skin around your eyes is highly sensitive and prone to puffiness, darkness, and fine lines. To alleviate these symptoms, use an eye cream with gentle ingredients like honey and ginseng.

  • Moisturiser

Moisturisers seal all these good ingredients in your skin, keeping it hydrated and smooth.

  • Sunscreen

The skin can easily be damaged by UV light, leading to premature ageing and skin cancer. Sunscreen with SPF is the last step of the routine, protecting your skin during the day.

You might be thinking, “Who has time to do all ten steps in a day?” However, with the right habits and consistency, you’ll soon notice that your skin is brighter and healthier.

So, start following the 10-step Korean skincare routine now and purchase your products from a trusted skincare expert!
